Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine Preserve and Restore Fertility
With many couples waiting until their late thirties and even early forties to have children, infertility is experienced by many couples trying to reporduce. It should be noted that one third of the time it’s due to the woman alone having fertility issues, one third is due to the man alone having fertility issues, and the last third is when both the man and the woman have fertility issues.
Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine are Superior in Treating Stress Naturally
The number one cause of infertility is stress. It is when we are stressed that our bodies are focused on “survival” not “reproduction”. When we are stressed our central nervous system shuts down or puts into hibernation or sleep mode all functions that are not related to “survival”. Since many couples are waiting until there late thirties to have children, they are usually living under stressful conditions due to establishing their careers. This type of stress may be very subtle yet present 24/7. Under such conditions the central nervous system will be more in a state of “fight or flight” and lose its focus on essential health maintenance and reproductive functions. Naturally stress is only one cause. Fertility and reproduction can be further impaired by unhealthy diets and eating patterns that may have developed over time along with lack of sleep and exercise and the use of vices such as tobacco, alcohol, recreation drugs, etc. Further injury to reproduction and infertility can come from environmental toxins such as pollutants and chemical exposure found in the air, water, soil and certain foods.
Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine Can Rejuvenate Ovulation
Another frequent cause of infertility is anovulation or lack of ovulation due to woman using birth control pills for up to 20 years at a time. In doing so, the effect of birth control pills tells the body to not ovulate. If one’s body is told to not ovulate for decades at a time, it can get “lazy” and “forget” how to. It may take some time before ovulation is rejuvenated. Unfortunately, when a woman is in her mid-thirties or above she is often told that “time” is something she does not have.
Infertility is defined as when a couple has unprotected sex for one year and fails to conceive. It is highly recommended that you do not wait a year because then the couple feels like they have hit the wall and this is it. They feel that time is of the essence and they must do everything possible including artificial reproductive technology (ART) in order to conceive. If stress is the largest contributing factor to infertility, waiting to this point will only magnify stress exponentially. Waiting is not recommended.
My first and foremost recommendation is fertility maintenance and infertility prevention. These issues are discussed during the consultation with Dr. Barrett for most all women patients who may possibly conceive no matter what they are being treated for. Fertility maintenance means living well. It’s a win:win situation. Whether you plan on conceiving today or more than a year from today, you should schedule a consultation with Dr. Barrett for fertility maintenance and infertility prevention. It will save you so much time and unnecessary aggravation than the conventional route of waiting a year with unprotected sex. It is never too late for such a consult because even if you are in a tight situation where you feel time is of the essence, such knowledge and practice will also facilitate getting pregnant and if necessary increase the success of ART procedures.
Other common contributing factors to infertility for women are polycystic ovarian syndrome, endometriosis, fallopian tube blockages, fibroids, pelvic inflammation, adenomyosis, and the effects of some STDs. Early diagnosis and treatment of the above is very important and a key to infertility prevention. Acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine has the following success rate in treating these issues.
Overall the best advise regarding fertility maintenance and infertility prevention is to start as soon as possible and do not wait until the matter is urgent. Dr. Barrett has an overall 70% success rate in helping woman conceive. Unfortunately, too many woman begin treatment when the desire to conceive is urgent. The success rate would be even higher if this were not the case.
Whether you want to urgently conceive or are just thinking of it as a possibility, Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine have a high success rate and the only side effects are that your overall health will improve as well.
